Well the same bird just a different pose. Sorry the posts weren't closer together, work keeps getting in the way of my fun!

Nice pose and clarity, +1 on the brightness comment by Ron. iso 1000 on the 7D may be too much for shots in full sun.

Interesting texture on the background, not pure noise. I'm wondering about adding a touch of contrast. Your subject is nice and sharp and the image composed well.

Yes I see what you mean, it does look brighter on here than on my screen so I've played with it a bit to produce a second version. Still struggling with pp so advice is always welcome

The second is an improvement Chris. You might try "levels" on this shot. Just move both sliders towards the middle a small amount ~ Ron

Sharp looking image and what an eyeful!

Looks like a great subject to enjoy Chris. I do not know the exact correct colors of this bird but it is common to pick up a great deal of 'yellows' in a setting like this.
I am merely posting my work up of your image as a suggestion of what potential it has. The contrast is one thing to tinker with on a shot like this where lowering it can help. I pulled out some yellow and added a bit of green. Maybe you can do a White Balance adj on it before you start with any other adjustments and you are likely to get a good neutral off the head somewhere if it is gray??

I used the blur tool on the BG a bit, just one way of softening it. I also selected the bright side of the bird from the top of the head down to the toes and toned it back a wee bit. Anyhow, the shot is all there, just a matter of continuing to play and learn processing

Thanks Karl, that's pretty much what it should look like. I like the use of the blur tool and although I thought I had reduced the yellows a tad, you're version is much more representative of the true colours (uk spelling!) as I remember them. How long did it take you to do that?

Herb, please remember full sun over here is weaker than your full sun!! I will try and be more aware of my ISO in the future, I think I tend to shoot higher ISO's out of habit during the winter months.
