D200 +80-400 VR @ 400mm, ISO 800, 1/60, f8, fill flash (SB800 + Better Beamer)

So, I’m reviewing my images after a morning shoot in fog and find a frame with the beautiful blurred feathers on the back of the goose. One problem, I’ve cropped off the front 1/3 of the face. The next frame captures the full head and most of the goose yet the background is busy and the blur boring. Then it comes to me, stich them together, remove the background and oh crap, there not the same size so I adjust the size as well. I think it was worth the effort, you decide.

It's a timely post coinciding with the celebrations of Marcel Duchamp and Juan Gris. Morrís--the surrealistic cubist of wildlife photography. I like it. I like the image and that you went there.

Morris! I was an avid reader of yours a long time ago when you were on dpreview. I just got into bird photography and remembered your name for some reason, and now I see that this is where you've been! haha. I remember one post where you talked about properly exposing for the whites on egrets - and I can still remember the close up now. I see you are still shooting with the trusty 80-400, but have upgraded to a d200! Ok, that is all.

Hi Miguel,

It is great to hear from you. I burned out the shutter on my D70s a few years ago and am much happier with the D200. I still love to do beautiful whites and will be posting some swans soon.
