My go to lens is the 18-200. Thinking I want a wide angle lens which I can use when I eventually move into an FX body. Urban shots of buildings and landscapes...
Thanks for advice. Price is important, but not so important that I will buy junk.

AF or MF? MF on a DX body is a challenge so the 24/1.4 G might fit the bill.

Not sure what you mean by wide angle (maybe you're okay with 18mm being wide enough), but there's only one or two lenses that will work both as a WA (<18mm) on DX cameras and then UWA on FX cameras and those would be in the 1-2 thousands $. TBH, I suggest just getting a decent DX WA and then selling it when you upgrade. Sigma and Tokina make some wonderful WA for DX.

Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6
Sigma 8-16mm
Tokina 11-16mm 2.8

The Nikon AF wide primes at 18 and 20 are 1) discontinued but midling, and 2) decent, respectively. Both are something like 20 year old designs and are not likely to carry over well to the newest FX bodies. The 14 is an interesting option but outclassed by the 14-24 zoom. The zoom, though heavy + cumbersome, might also serve your transition to FX.

You have a D7000 and want a wide angle. Buy for the camera you have. Buy a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8.

An in-between of the two previously suggested lenses would be the Tokina 16-28mm f2.8. It is an FX compatible lens and I have heard good things about it. If I were in your shoes, that is what I would probably do.

I haven't used the 16-28/2.8 but I loved the 11-16/2.8 on DX. Right now Adorama has the lens for $699 which seems like a good deal.

I shoot with a Nikon D7000 and currently have a Sigma 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6 UWA lens. I'll be embarking on a cross-country road trip taking photographs of some of our national forests and other natural landscapes and was wondering if it would be worth replacing my Sigma UWA with one of the other UWAs previously mentioned in this post.

Do you guys have any opinions or recommendations; I will be shooting with a tripod the majority of the time so I'm really just looking for overall best picture quality and minimal distortion.

I had the Sigma 10-20 on a 40D, and I liked it better than the Canon EF-s 10-22mm that is a good lens. Build is good on the Sigma. The Tokina 11-16mm is great as well.

Rokinon Samyang Bower 14mm f2.8 - I almost bought it when I still had the D7000, and now with the D600 I still want wider than what my 20mm Nikkor gets me, so it would have been the right lens even on the D7000. No filters, but hey, 14mm for under $400 that's a 21mm f2.8 on DX.

I just bought that lens for the D700. I haven't used a filter of any sort in years, so it doesn't bother me

I've been extremely pleased with the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6. It's traveled quite a long way with me and on a lot of hikes through the Andes, the Galapagos, down the Californian coast... it's the one lens that I am sad to replace as I transition to FX, and I am still not entirely sure what I will be replacing it with. Probably the 16-35 Nikkor.

FWIW the 11-16mm makes a sweet 16mm prime on FX :-)

The Sigma 12-24 is FX compatible and gave me awesome results on DX when I had it. Doesn't take filters, which is why I replaced it with the 10-20. Still the widest you can go on FX with a zoom, I believe.

If you don't shoot astrophotography, I can highly recommend the sigma 8-16. I love it and it really as wide (equivalent) as you can get DX or FX.
