, but I like the shot and think the beginning of the tree's root system is nifty.
It looks like a very old and very large tree trunk- in a countryside where mainly rocks grow.
What kind of tree?

But the image implies a very thick base to the tree, and that implies great age, and the two don't often occur together in an arid and very inhospitable-looking place like this.

Charlie - it was in a semi-wooded area right by the Pacific coast. maybe a pine or a cedar or eucalyptus (most likely).
