I'm interested in trying some similar techniques but i'm not so keen on using a scanner. I'm wondering if anyone has tried something like this using black velvet or some other light absorbing black material?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Maggie Taylor (married to Jerry Uelsmann) uses scanners extensively in her work.
It doesn't get much more awesome than this...
