Those bird shots look pretty impressive from v1+300 combo and made me really thinking since I've been looking for cost efficient bird setup for a while now.

Not for me. These photos show the processed 'plastic' look that I want to avoid.

Look at a real chickadee. The feather detail in these photos drops out at a relatively low frequency and turns into processed color where the bird has much more detail.

The comparison between D300s crop vs V1 is indistinguishable. At least for web size. Makes me ask the question - how much of a crop advantage is there really? The D7k sensor should be even better (and more MP's).

I wonder how many people buying the V1 for the crop factor that could have had the same result using the crop tool in your raw-processor. How large prints you have to make to see a difference? Valid question imo.

Looks good to me, but these shots don't have the exceptional clarity of Doug's setup. I suppose it is not a surprise, given that the price is a fraction.

Isnt it bit problematic to focus this on V1?

It looks usable, but dunno.. nothing special? I guess if you used it with NEX-5N, you would get much better results..

The NEX has a better sensor, but the lenses are not so great. With alt lenses it is a totally different experience. I don't think these cameras overlap at all, really. If the 1 is a success, which it sounds like it will be, Nikon will probably bring out some interesting lenses for it quite quickly. This is one of Sony's problems, they are just not really an optics company.

It looks a little worse than what we've gotten accustomed to seeing in web-sized jpg files. If web-sized jpgs are what you're interested in this should be OK.

I don't see much difference between the V1 photos and the comparison photos cropped from the D300s files. With the D300s files you'd have the option of using more of the lens' field of view and making a print.
