Fred,
This is a pretty special shot.
We get both a great image & a tutorial from FM himself.
Between Jim's shot & this one, my interest is piqued to visit DV!

Awesome shot and composition! It really showcases the capabilities of the 17TSE.

I am a bit confused if this is two stitched shots or one then pano cropped? If two are you creating one shifted left then combing with a second shifted right?

Derek

Yes Derek. Two frames. One shifted to the right and the other to the left. Photoshop's photomerge blend them in seconds. Thanks for your comment!

Nice "in-your-face" rock shot of the racetrack. I like how the rock is the focus here more than the trails/footprints.

Hi I love this shot and the sky is fantastic.

I might be about to make my self sound like an idiot but, how does this happen? Is it ground expansion, or maybe wind?

Checkout the links my earlier post in this thread, page 1 post #9.

There have been several studies on how the rocks move and leave trails. The NASA study I reference is among the best. I summarize it in a previous FM thread, link also supplied in the earlier post.

I really like this image, especially the trail left by the rock.

Beautiful you have got a really sweet perspective here. Appreciate the technical info too as I am interested getting a 17TSE. Could not quite understand why you say this is 10mm?

Mike got the NASA study. Could not get better than that! It's indeed a magical place. I love shooting there. As a warning, it takes about 25 miles off road driving to the there. Your car will get trashed! Also because of the big mountains, the sun light goes away much earlier than the sunset time.
Take care,
Fred

mabidally,
When you shift the 17TSE 12mm to the right and 12mm to the left on a full frame camera and combine both frames, you get an approximate focal length of 10mm with 120 degrees of horizontal angle of view.
Best,
Fred
