Asides from the 3mm more in reach, is there a difference between the 14-42mm and 14-45mm Panasonic Micro 4/3 lenses?

Yes. The 14-45 is made better with a metal mount and is supposedly sharper.

14-45 has a metal mount, sharper at certain focal lengths/apertures/regions, has an OIS switch.
