elkhornsun Offline • • • Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #1 · Why not wait for real world results from D800 and D800E I see too many posts to even count where people are asking for opinions on the D800 versus the D800E or which lens to get or what printing will be like from the files or how much of a problem Moire or specular highlights is going to be and it is to a large degree a foolish quest. The D800 will ship in March and the D800E in April. By June there will be many people using both cameras and posting about their experiences and we will have real world data that may be statistically not relevant but a heck of a lot better than anyone's opinion at this point in time. I understand and appreciate the anxiety as to which model to buy and not wanting to make a mistake but I have been waiting for 3 years for a worthwhile successor to the D3. I can wait a few more months to learn more about the performance characteristics of both cameras, and to have first hand experience with at least one of them. Feb 23, 2012 at 01:22 AM

I would have been able to maybe come up with $5,000 oh well. It sure looks like the wait is over for the D4. It appears that all of Calumetphoto stores have it in stock. I will be patient for my D800, which I think will be better suited for most of my work any way. But also anxious for all the reports from first hand users of the D4. I will eventually end up with a D4 or possible a D4 light some day. But the D800 could become a life time camera for me at my age. Dennis Feb 23, 2012 at 02:21 AM

The constant posts stem from the fact that, frankly with Nikon's history, if you don't have one pre-ordered by now, you may have to wait a long time before you can get one. There's a lot of people who really want the camera and would be happy to make a purchase when they see the results - but waiting till then might mean you'll have your D800 next year... People are just getting excited over the new technology. One reason for these types of posts are people here value others opinions and these opinions can sway them to buy or not buy. However filter v no filter is actually quite a significant decision. Waiting until there are plenty of user reports in circulation would seem sensible.
