The 400L 5.6 was purchased as a hold-me-over until I could get the 500L II and I am asking retail on my 1DsIII because I do not forsee the X arriving on time either.
I can understand things being delayed because of the tsunami and Taiwan flood, but this is really getting old. The other part of the equation is that once they begin shipping, how many are going to trickle into the supply line? It may be 2013 before they become available in any great numbers.
It's been taking a long time for the 400mm f/2.8 to become readily available and it probably will be the same for the 500mm II and 600mm II.
There's a lot of pent-up frustration with Canon right now.

Canon seems to keep blowing their new equipment release schedule, time after time.
While I agree with your point here, I'm not sure they can be blowing a release schedule if they never released a schedule to blow. The April dates could have been speculation.
Regardless, I'm going to guess this time they get them out. What kind of quantities I have no idea, but we'll see some lenses.
These lenses are available in small amounts to special CPS members in Japan. Maybe not EOSfun for you Canadian members, but if someone really wants or needs a 500 or 600mkII he should use Japanese contacts to get an early copy. Canon Europe has a few copies too, only available to special Canon sponsored events by selected CPS members. I have no inside information for US or Canada distribution though. Sorry if this means no EOSfun

True enough, however, less than 2 wks ago I obtained a confirmation myself traceable to Canon Canada that the lenses were going to be available in April.
Mind you, we still do not know what is that May 2012 announcement which TDP is talking about ?

Indeed, EOSfun, perhaps that is what we have at present, an early but rather limited/controlled lens distribution. Hmm.....how can I jump on that gravy train ?
Contact CPS either in Canada or through them in Japan. Make clear you want that lens! You are a well known lens collector and share your experience with fellow Canon shooters that might be inspired by your EOSfun in the new telelenses. There must be someone who does want to help you within the Canon organisation. If I knew someone in the Canadian CPS to help you I would contact you, but I am sorry I can't. Anyway keep us informed when you have your long white mkII baby
Who's Craig? You mean the CR guy?
Carnathan is the TDP guy btw
There is no official announcement, everybody is talking based on information from Canon people, however it looks like there won't be any official word until they are sure they can make it. Bitten too many times I guess...
