third shoot with the 4x5. took three photos on this shoot, heres one so far.
each shoot brings much knowledge. soooo much to learn still, but little by little, Progression shows her face, and oh what a beauty she is.
are you shooting these w/ Instant film 4x5 is awesome. If you get a chance, shoot some chrome. Blow ANY digital MF camera out of the water IMO. I want to shoot some 4x5 & 8x10 myself.
What 4x5 are you using? Instand film is limiting on 4x5, was mostly used to proof exposure and the composition. If you really want to explore 4x5, try B&W, TMax400 (2) is a good film as is Ilford Delta and HP5. For chromes Ektachorome G works well as well as some of the Fuji films. Color negs also works well Kodak Ektar seems to win here. You will need film holders, buy them used, but still should be in good condition, no frayed or dented edges. All this requires processing.
tomm101...i'm using a cambo. i have all the film holders and everything needed. tried 10 sheets. now messing with some polaroids till i feel more comfortable with the system. thank you very much for the info. greatly appreciated.

4x5 really shows it's worth when you use when you use chromes or negatives, b&w or color. As I said earlier instant film is really limiting. Polaroid hasn't been produced since the early 2000's, so if he has a stock I wouldn't use it for final images. Some have used the chemical backing squeegeed to fine art paper for another look at Polaroid. So with 4x5 20 exposures is a good portrait session, you have to be secure with what you are doing. Very different than working with digital.
the reason David is using instant instead of Sheet Film (which he has used) is that it gives him an Instant look at what he is doing in terms of tilts, focus, aperture. it is such a different experience shooting with a large format camera that the instant nature of the polaroids helps to hone his skill, instead of waiting weeks to get back a processed neg and an expensive scan for each image.
the polaroids in there own right have a certain lo-fi quality that is rather appealing.
