Tom, the press photo of the lens shows it in a 'retracted' position at 24mm...so it must extend to zoom out to 70mm in a conventional design. Hence I don't think it will have the same hood design.

That's disappointing. I love the current hood design.
+1...While I don't own the current 24-70, It does have the perfect hood design for a zoom. All zoom lenses should have that zoom/hood design (IMHO). I guess there are design difficulties in using that type of zoom/hood but I sure wish my 24-105 had that design!

Are there any photos of the new 24-70 II with the hood on it? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
Not as far as I have seen either. But I don't know what your expecting to see. It will look like a slightly bigger 24-105 with hood.
The hood mounts to the front of the lens in the conventional way and the lens extends when zoomed.

Good video, but the audio was terrible; it was so garbled that I couldn't understand a word.
He might as well have been speaking Dutch for all I could get out of it.

And they still get reamed on the price. Higher absolute number, plus the exchange rate - may almost be worth it to fly from the Netherlands to NY and buy it here!

Hopefully the the street price will be lower
70-200/2.8 IS II
B&H : $ 2199
Foto Konijnenberg € 2099 ( but that still is $ 2780 at the current exchange rate )
From the information we now know it seems to me the old - big - hood just must be better. But maybe the lens is so well corrected optically that this smaller hood will be enough. Only sample full-res pictures would help to decide.

I know; I was making a little joke. A poor attempt at humor, since it didn't seem to come across. If it had been a Russian reviewer I might have said dat is Russisch voor mij.
