About three years ago our town decided to run a little public campaign on maintaining environmental health of the nature paths and marshes in the area. Some messages they wanted to communicate were about not littering, keeping dogs on the leash, not harassing wildlife, and that sorta thing. So they needed some graphic material as well.

I sent them the image #1. While they apparently liked the quirky message coming from a bird perched on a discarded shopping cart, they also wanted me to show some nice marsh environment in the background. Since I couldn't and wouldn't do that, I had remained unpublished.

I also enclose three more egret shots from that period, such as they are.

All shot with handheld 1DMkIIN + 500 f/4 IS MkI..

Edit: We must go on, so the old stuff has to go. :D

Picture #1 gives out the message well. I really like the #2 and #4 shots. Neat captures .

Nice series Peter. I think the first presents quite a message as is. Too bad the powers that be couldn't recognize that.

Thanx Mike.
What was needed were some recognizable scenic features from their marsh. That was a perfectly reasonable expectation from their end.
The fact that 500 f/4 didn't make a good landscape lens wasn't really their concern.

I guess you cant please everyone, but they got the message, whether or not they did anything about it. A good example of you using your gear to draw attention to a worthy cause.

What was needed were some recognizable scenic features from their marsh.
Wouldn't that have been the old grocery cart?

I'm sure the natives that frequented the area would have been familiar with it.

That message never goes away, so kudos to you for the effort(s). Given the bizzare at times nature of some of my work, I do document what should never be. (Sorry for the YodaSpeak).

You will find a way to get through to the folks that can make a difference; what normally happens is that they will find you...

Paul, that particular cart was removed shortly thereafter as a part of the yearly (?) cleanup, I guess.

Good point, Mike.

Interestingly, in that particular marsh the local conservation authority folks have been doing a variety of projects dealing with habitat restoration, reaserch as well as student education.
As a result, there are butt-ugly fences, water and god-knows-what sampling stations etc. all over the marsh. The problem is that the ugly man made stuff gets into pictures, either directly like in the example below, or the background gets ruined.

Thank you, Larry, all in all, Ontario is a fairly civilized place so that sort of environmental vandalism is not common.
