It would be so difficult for me to let go of my shots to another person at this stage of my development. I see my shots in their final phase in my head before taking them. It would hurt so much to see someone change it.
Although my lack of experience probably shows here. I'm sure the huge production houses must have crazy talent...
Maybe i need a mentor.
I completely understand your preference to keep all images you create under your control, which is totally natural for most of us. Fact is though, a lot of photographers are not that great in post production (I'm one of the worst) and we must rely on people more skilled than ourselves to dig the the shots we all see in our heads, out of the digital files we've made. As did (do) the great photographers I've already mentioned above. The changes made are still under one's own direction : they just do things that we are unable to. It doesn't 'hurt' at all ! .. except maybe one's hip-pocket.
I don't think you need a mentor - I think you're work is looking just fine as it is! Have you been formally trained though? How did you learn to pose your models so well?
I am really impressed by the quality of your work. I curious as to your lighting setup. Looking at the catch light in Elena's eys, you have a single light as your main light source. Did you use a on-camera flash unit or off-camera strobe / lightbox. Given the cramp space you were shooting from, I suspect it was an attached unit. Job well done!
You don't see a post like this every day. Thanks especially for sharing the details of your preparation for the shoot. Your work is top notch and I hope you continue to post frequently.

This has to be some of the best shots i've seen on FM! The whole presentation is beautiful and professional. The shots themselves, of course, but also the beautiful models, the excelent make-up and the wonderful lighting. Looking through your website, you've definetly lived up to your influences as your shots would not look out of place in any of the magazines you say you have been influenced by.
Look forward to seeing a fellow Vancouverite in America's Next Top Model

Thanks for sharing your 'workflow'
... and a D30 is a good cam, butt i'll think you know that by know...
Hi wesley. Yeah the d30 really is a great camera. I maxed it's worth many times over. She's just a bit picky at times, but treat her right and she gives you many happy returns.

I'm self taught. I learned by reading a few tutorials online and applied what i learned i guess. But the real educational tools for me are Vogue and Maxim. Victoria Secret's website is also one of my instructors lol. I learn my style from Vogue, and learn my poses from maxim. my lighting I mimic from various sources. It sounds weird, but I also try some of the poses out myself before showing the model. It gives me insight into the shot. I don't know any other photogs that do this.. but it's a result of me only working with amateurs and non-models. mostly girls i meet online that want sexy pictures of themselves.
