I don't understand your logic on this one. Is there a m4/3s equivalent to the 100-400 lens?
Looking at your profile, you are geared for FF and you are not very much into telephoto. (I also don't understand your Canon 85 f1.8 macro USM lens.) Therefore it seems to me you'd get more mileage from a 5D2 (or X). Unless you are just tired of changing lenses in which case perhaps the G1X after its reviewed.
I want to know what your choice would be! No matter mine.
Well, if you look at my profile, you'll see I am resplendent with DSLR bodies and lenses. The G1X looks to be a solid upgrade from my G10 and I use my G a lot when I'm tired of changing lenses.

Thank you for pointing that about the 85, I probably updated by deleting a previous lens and missed that bit.
I somehow have two needs, small camera an main camera replacement, that's why my choices are so bipolar.
About the 100-400...yes, there is a kinda equivalent. The Panasonic 100-300.
Aaron, I have no valid opinion on how the Panasonic 100-300 might handle or suit your purposes. 18 oz is certainly better than 3 lbs! However, my "light" DSLR travel kit is 5D2 24-105, 100L macro, 100-400, and a G10 with U/W case. (Just over 9 lbs carry on.) I've been using the G10 as a general purpose zoom when the wildlife lens is on the 5D and it works fairly well. I'm hopeful that that combination will come up a notch in quality with the G1X.

I know what you mean, I'm very well used to the IQ of my 5D, how clean the files are and the DOF play it can give me.
I just try to look into the options and see if someone comes up with good points and their preferences. It should give some light.
Just had a talk with my wife and she says...I cannot see you with a small camera after seeing you so many years with the chunky brick. I guess I should start trying to convince her on the 1DX then lol
You mentioned being bipolar, I still have and love my 5Dc and If I can I like the 100-400 much better on the 5D2 than the 7D unless I really need to push reach or FPS. So which bodies do I take when traveling? Eek! Especially when some airlines have a 16 lb carry-on limit.
The 1DX looks to be a great camera and would complement the 5D well on the heavy side. But there is a certain freedom to P&Ss if you could just use them above 100 ISO. Enjoy your dilemma.
