| p.1 #1 · red tailed hawk hunting | |
It's always a thrill for me to see a RTH hunting (or any raptor, for that matter). A couple of days a ago, saw a juvenile RTH landed on top of the lamp post; about 5 minutes later, he spotted something in the grass below, jumped down, I got off 3 shots. I was pretty close, these are all full frames re-sized for web; maybe next time I will step back a little bit, to leave room for cropping/composition. C&C always welcome.

Unfortunately, whatever he was after escaped. Honestly, I was more disappointed than he; I wanted a cute little white bunny at his talons in #3 (he caught one a while back in this area). A little critter won't be good enough, like this:

The lizard is just too small; or this little mouse:

A big colorful king snake will be as good as a white bunny:

But I needed the snake to be under the talons in #3, and it would be good if the snake tried to fight back; yeah, right, dream on!

And that Kestrel, too! Excellent series and technique, Charles. I'm particularly liking the two pics with the still-living mouse, his eyes wide open. Makes you wonder what was going through his mind, knowing this was it?
