p.1 #1 · Need Direction / Insight for Photographing Corsa Cliente FXX-Ferrari

My issue is more about media passes , I of course have a huge interest with Ferrari , I attend most events and Track days , Sometimes to my disappointment I am unable to acquire a media pass . Although Ferrari clubs have has used some of my images for their newsletters and Magazines , I have no Privileges .

I currently am interested in the Corsa Cliente FXX Series Which takes place only in two locations here in the US .
1. Infineon Raceway.
2. Laguna Seca .

Upon Calling the Track for some access, media , press passes. I was told its really not up to them but more Ferrari of North America .

Now before I call them , I was looking for some insight from automotive track photographers who frequently attend these events . I would like a little direction of how to set myself up properly for these events so I don't get anymore fences in my images . I am not a local guy with a camera , I have a good handle on what I do just lack the connections and or means to this access .

Any help is greatly appreciated .
Thank you
Inno

This shouldn't be a problem if you're part of the working media. Have whatever media outlet you're shooting for take care of this. That's generally how it's done.

Media passes are for working media, they have a reason to be there. Others who don't will need to shoot from the general admission area.

Honesty is the best policy. The straight forward approach will be your best bet. ie; My name is ____, I would like to cover your event. I will do _____ with the photos. I mean what else is there to say?

I used to think credentials were for strictly for the news media until I started shooting some mainstream events. I soon discovered there are many times when media photographers are outnumbered by others.

With that being said, I don't imagine the media will be clamoring to cover the Corsa Cliente FXX Series (no offense). When I Googled it this thread, with only 84 views, was at the top. The less interest in the event the more likely you can gain access.

Good luck,
Marty

Thanks for the input Marty , That's kind of the route that I would normally go sometimes I get lucky but most times I don't . It's not he largest event but I think their concern is privacy since these are very wealthy peoria who own these vehicles and they are not daily drivers (autos) they are track cars ranging from 800,000 to 1.5 million a car . To spot one of these at a local event is usually a big deal. And to photograph them in their correct enviornment is pricelessl , well , at least for me and a handful of others .

Jim, You did not mention what you do with your photos. Most event organisers have to get insurance for their event. They have to justify the risk of allowing you to shoot with the reward. If you are attending the event and are not providing them with what they consider exposure then you might have a tough time getting credentials. I have been working with a promoters group and the number one thing on all their minds is liability.

That is a perspective that I didn't consider but makes perfect sense . My goal here is that I am a fan of Auto Racing , If I can capture a few good shots and upload them to my webpage where It is fully automated for purchases and use the links to place on most forums and blogs for exposure . which has proven to be true because there are many that read forums and after one event I did go to , I was astounded by how many people wanted to use the images . In turn when people read about a new event they are most likely to decide if its worth their time attending . When I upload pics to a car forum. People see and or get a sense of what its about therefore it creates a desire to go . I do know this for a fact .
My interest is to see my image in a major publication, print or newsletter , Establish a great relationship with the company and Event planners and generate some traffic to my site so some may purchase a print or two .

You brought some valuable points to me that I will consider , This is why I gather information and am lucky enough to have people share their thoughts .

Thank you again ! Jimmy (inno)
