Taken one morning in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona in 2005. This part of the state is green alpine semi desert forest. I must confess, what you see isn't actually mist but smoke from a control burn by the U.S. Forestry Service
Steven- The smoke makes for an excellent image.
I'd prefer blacker blacks to emphasize the whiteness of the smoke- but you already know I'm a contrast freak, so that won't come as news .
And thanks for the admission that it's not fog. I lived in nearby Jerome for two winters, and never saw much fog in that little valley- so I'd have had trouble swallowing if you hadn't explained.
Controlled burns in western forests usually make sense- they're just painful to see in otherwise beautiful country. At least you took pictorial advantage of the situation (and probably drove to Grand Canyon later the same day ).

Captivating and mysterious at the same time. I wondered why the most intense glow was located in the valley. Should have read your intro first

Thanks Santiago, yes 'smoke' has different characteristics than natural mist. Smoke has denser properties which is why it hovers at a lower level where mist is more buoyant.
