I'm not a big J1/V1 fan but I had some spare time, an FT1 F lens to V1 adapter, and a 600mm f4 with 2X converter sitting around, so I figured "why not".

First the scene at 35mm from the back of our building (note the cell phone tower on the right).

To give a little reference, next the tower top at 600mm on a D3x

And finally with the 600, 2x converter shooting a V1 with it's 2.7 crop factor.

All resized to 800 pixels wide. Of course I could crop the center of the D3x image at 1200 and get about the same thing. But that wouldn't have looked nearly as ridiculous as the V1 hanging off the back of the 600 f4 .

Roger,

Hard to tell for sure with such a small image, but the supertelephoto shot looks amazingly sharp.

Wow...

$900.00 lens cap. Not bad pics for a 3240 lens

Wow! That's really impressive! That little camera can really hold it's own! I'd love to see some shots of the moon with that rig.

The moon was my first plan, but the clouds aren't going to cooperate this weekend.

Use the Siggy 800 with a 2X for that 4320mm

Sweet way to spend an afternoon in the industrial park. As with you I really enjoy the gear of photography and the combos you guys come up with.

I've always kicked myself a little that since retiring from my MD gig I didn't think of LR first. Always fun to read your articles and exploits. Great stuff.

Hope the Leica boxes are to your liking on Monday.

RCicala I tried shooting my 500mm F4 with V1/FT1 just for fun at night and man that thing is touchy... even on the tripod it was hard to get a sharp shot at 1/15 shutter speed (about the fastest I could have gotten). Day time I'm sure would be no problem, but my 500 F4 doesn't have VR so just that slight camera shake hitting the shutter was enough to cause unsharp images. Glad to see that at least during the day it's good and sharp in your photo.

I plan to try again when the rain goes away at the moon, but it's really hard to hit that shutter without making any movement I haven't even checked but I wonder if they have an external shutter which would solve that problem easily. (edit: and just thinking a little more about my problem, I know! I'll just set it to timer next time... have it on electronic shutter so absolutely no movement and after 1 or 2 seconds it'll shoot and that way I can get sharp photos.. DUH!)
