p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Describe your dream kit

So let's have a little fun. I'd like to hear what your dream kit is, what you'll be using it for, and why each item in your kit matters for you.

I'll go first, as an example.

Purpose: Landscape, travel photography, day and nighttime timelapse, occasional sports/portraits

2 1DX's - FF, high ISO, Love the MP setting, love the 1-series AF, controls, feel, and handling
2 5D2's - FF, high ISO for astrophotography, great battery life with grip for timelapse
16-35 2.8 - Ultrawide for landscapes/nature scenes, 2.8 for astrophotography timelapses
Zeiss 21 2.8 - Gotta love the legend for its ubersharpness for landscapes
24L - Even faster lens for astrophotography timelapses
35L - I've always wanted one and love shooting wider than 50
Sigma 50 1.4 - I love the sharpness and bokeh out of this 50
MP-E 65 and MT-24ex - Epic macro beyond what I can do with the 100 + tubes
70-200 f4 IS - Lightweight outdoor hiking telephoto
70-200 2.8 IS II - My go-to often used telephoto
85 1.8 - Compact lightweight 85
85L II - For when the 70-200 just isn't fast enough
100 2.8 IS - I love shooting this lens for macro!
135L - Epic portrait lens
100-400 - General purpose lightweight wildlife
200 f2L - I LOVE shooting people and animals with this lens!
500 f4L - Wildlife
1.4x III & 2x III TCs - duh
Gitzo/RRS support systems

Wow Ariel... Wow. I think you also need to request the total cost for the dream also be included, especially for your little list!

My dream kit would probably be simple:
Purpose: Wildlife
1D Mk IV
500L Mk II
1.4X Mk III, 2X Mk III
Rock solid CF tripod with military-grade gimbal head.

Camera bodies:
1D Mark IV *2 OR one of these and a 600D

Zooms:
16-35/2.8 II <got one> - the go to wideangle zoom.
24-85/3.5-4.5 <got one> - this "in between" lens will suffice as I'm not using the 35-70 range much (but see below)
70-200/2.8 IS <got one> OR Sigma 120-300/2.8 OS and Tamron 70-300/4-5.6 VC - the go to telephoto zoom OR the big and heavy one for difficult stuff plus the smaller, fair weather lens for walkabound and such.

Primes:
Sigma 14/2.8 <got one> - the incredible wide. The only substitute for a wide lens is a yet wider one.
24/1.4 II - the bright WA used for... pretty much everything. All too often the f/2.8 of the 16-35 seems not enough.
Tamron 60/2 macro - loved this one when using it during a photo fair. Triple duty 1:1 Macro / Portrait / Bright short telephoto lens.
Sigma 85/1.4 - I love the 85mm FL. If it's bright to boot, what's not to like? Just like the 60, I only tried this lens once on my camera... but sure as hell I wish I could keep it there.
a longer macro lens, probably Sigma 150/2.8 OS - for obvious insect macros (I love insects... in a good way)

Flashes:
430EX <got one> - I love mine.
580EX II - but sometimes the 430 is not powerful enough / recharges not quickly enough

Miscellanious:
Extender 1.4x - never know when you need even more reach
Extender 2x - same as above
580EX power booster
...

Of course the respective mk.Is (70-200 and 430EX) could've been replaced by mk.IIs but no big deal either way. I kind of like the charging sound of the old 430EX anyways - reminds me of the proton pack from Ghostbusters.

There is one.

P.S. I'm not listing a mirrorless kit I'd like to have alongside the above... but I'm definitely looking out for one.

My dream lens would be a 14-200L f1.2 in the size of the current 24-70L. It would be sharp wide open and in all the corners. *sigh*...

This sounds like a repeat of the "if you could only have 20 lenses" thread. But seriously, as a hobbyist, I pretty much have my dream kit which you can see in my profile if you care. I'd like to add a 500 f4 but the Mk IIs would double the cost of my kit. Maybe a used Mk I? If the G1X bests my G10 significantly, I'll upgrade. I'm hoping the 5D III isn't good enough to tempt me, I have both the existing ones already. (I know, where's the fun in that?) If Ls were free, I'd add a few of the favs but I don't really need them. What I need are more travel trips.

Edit: What I'd really like is a FF digital Rebel body. ~1 lbs in weight. ~12 MP 3:2. I'd use it with the 24 f2.8, 35 f2, and 85 f1.8 or 100L or 70-200 f4 IS. Beautiful little kit.

Already have more lenses than I can carry but a 5D2N with ECF and grid on-demand (in optical VF) would be nice.

Hmmm...I'm going to answer this with a more realistic approach versus fantasy...so I'll just list those items that I can reasonably justify given my real-world needs & budget.

1DIV - Premium sports/action body...more affordable than the new 1DX.
(2) 1D - Cheap sports/action bodies for remote shooting and high flash-sync!
5DII - High resolution (somewhat more compact) body for everything other than sports/action.
500/4 IS (I or II) Premium long lens for wildlife
300/2.8 IS (I or II) Premium med/long lens for sports/wildlife
400/5.6 - Premium compact long lens for sports/wildlife
70-200/2.8 IS II - everyone needs one of these!
24-105/4 IS - I can't live without this lens!
16-35/2.8 (I or II) Ultra wide and fast when needed!
135/2 - Tele fast lens...tremendous portraits!
85/1.8 - Med (compact) fast lens
35/1.4 - Wide (very) fast lens
1.4x III & 2x III - For that extra reach
A few 580EX II's - Can't have enough light!
CyberSyncs - 100% reliable...must have!
Manfrotto Compact Light Stands - Need compact/light weight.
Manfrotto NeoTec Mono Pod - On handed operation...I like it!
Compact tripod - (Still looking for suggestions)

Funny I just realized Canon makes all the gear I could possibly want:

Travel: 5D2 + 28-300 L IS
Landscape: 5D2 + 17mm TS + 24mm TS II + 45mm TS + 70-200mm 4.0 L IS
Weddings: 5D2 + 24-70 2.8 + 70-200 2.8 IS + 24mm 1.4 II + 50mm 1.2 + 85mm 1.2 II + 135mm 2.0
Wildlife: 7D + 400mm 2.8 L IS II + TCs

It's the kit I now have: 1DsIII, 17-40, 24-105, 70-200, 24 TS-E II, Zeiss 100, and a 1.4 extender. There are no other lenses I need or want. I probably will want another camera somewhere down the road but I doubt it will be a 5DIIIX or whatever Canon plans to call it.
