It's not a problem, but it is curious. I have noticed that on my 70-200 2.8L version II the IS is much louder on my 1ds II than it is on my 1d IV, using the same camera settings ( both cameras set to manual with identical settings) . It's not noticeable on the orginal 70-200 2.8L .
I thought the lens was having problems until I moved it from the 1ds II to the 1d IV, strange that it's so much quieter.
I have a couple of theories as to the cause of the difference in the IS noise you have observed.
In order to complete my analysis, I'd like you to perform an additional test please.
Listen to the lens EMD operating on 1DsMkII and 1DMkIV. Note and report on any difference in noise.
I can't even hear the is in my version two, where I could clearly hear it in my version one, if there were no other noises. My 55-250is makes some weak sounds.

+1. The IS in my MKII is silent. I have to listen carefully to hear it disengage just to make sure it's working.
You have to do this the right way, as per Dick Cheney. You have an answer. You just have to force the facts to fit that answer. He must be right, because he managed to get away with shooting a guy in the face with a shotgun.
