I was wondering what you folks think about checking heat loss in a room with a DSLR? I don't have any IR converted cameras though. Any and all ideas are welcome. You can see my gear list. It is fairly updated.

An infrared thermometer would be a lot cheaper...

For temperatures in the 30°C range, which is relevant here, you need a camera sensitive to the 10,000 nm range of infrared, which is long-wavelength to far IR.

A standard IR camera conversion by LifePixel is typically 720 nm, i.e., near IR.

The utility company (gas/electric) may have a heat loss team or energy efficient team that will come to your house and do that for you. Some do this service for free.

you want something like this

There should be cheapo ones in the $500 range these days, but you pay for the low price with crappy displays.
