Hi All,
Just want to get some inputs regarding this combination. I will be using for traveling to hold my 5d2 w/ grip, and canon 70-200 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8. Please let me know about your experience with either of the above items ?
I was looking into your selection once but went with the following after discussing with Kerry Thalmann from Really Big Cameras:
Feisol CT 3442 RAL with 3442CCT Tripod
Photo Clam PC44NS Pro Ballhead
Feisol LB-7567 Leveling Base when I shoot panos
This set-up works very well with 5D MKII and 70-200 2.8L IS II. I have used this set up successfully with my 300 2.8L IS. Quite stable and light enough for travelling.
I suggest you discuss your plan with Kerry, he's extremely helpful.
Remember that this is a "traveler" class, and it's made to travel light. If your main goal is something that will above all travel well, okay. If, however, you see travel as only a rare event, or consider the local zoo as travel, something stronger is in order. This tripod is pretty stressed with a 70-200 f2.8 and if you get a larger lens, you need a sturdier tripod.
I returned by Oben AC-1410 tripod kit I got for $120 at B&H, and purchased the CT3441 & Photo Clam 36N ball head after talking to Kerry at ReallyBigCameras.
Although I was happy with the Oben tripod, I was concerned when mounting my 70-200. The new combination is almost 5x the price, so I really hope it is worth it. Again, I will only be using it for traveling since I am planning on going to Asia in March, and occasionally be using it at the(ZOO).
