With a 3Ds "TM" would not have had a problem with his "pro" 28-70/70-200 f2.8 zooms.
Wow. I think I'm more impressed with ISO6400 on the D3, but of course the 50 1.8 seems pretty nice too.
As for flash though, available light photography is great and all, but once I started using flash, it really opened a lot of new doors.
I still do and like available light photography, but at this point I would never degrade flash as 'half' photography. I would probably say it's twice as hard. With flash, you now have control over the direction the light comes from, and the intensity of foreground vs. background light (ambient vs. fill).
With available light photography, there are three big variables: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. With flash, there's those three, plus ambient vs. flash light intensity, plus flash direction, plus ambient vs. flash WB. Flash doesn't make you less cognizant of ambient light... it makes you MORE cognizant of it.
Talking about subject separation, with available light, you can separate by throwing the background OOF. With flash, you can also separate by darkening the background.

Sounds like you'll need to adjust your WB to the changing light...this is true of any lens, Kevin.
I just found out it was not the WB issue.
I happened to try AF-ON button. When I press AF-ON, reframe and shoot, it seem that the camera exposure metering system will move to the area where I re-frame.
Nice looking stuff. I am with you on ditching the flash. I would say the light is not bad at all. The light quantity may be low but the quality is quite good. The eyes sparkle which tells me the light is good.
Short and fast...... sounds a lot like a girl I used to date
Your D3 helped, but I got to give the credit to you for making these shots. Knowing your gear and what works best is all part of the "Monkey Magic"!!
Great job

Appreciate that, Marcus. Agree, the quality was good...I'll take a few incandescents over fluorescents
anytime. Levels were low, but it could have been worse.

Scott Many thanks, Scott. Really like the lil lens, it's an absolute steal for the money.
The 50mm 1.8G is one of the best buys out there for photography. I sold my entire Nikon Bag to go Leica and I added a D7000 as a back up to the leica. The 50 1.8 G is so sharp and pleasing. Everyone should have it in their bag!
As for the season. Lets see the famous T-Monkey Christmas Pic with Beer in Hand!!!! All the best in the season my friend!!
