I would like to know how to temporarily disable bridge and photoshop so that I may install updates to cs5? My os is windows 7. Thanks in advance!

You don't say what OS you are using but on Mac OS:

Go to the file menu in the applications and select "Photoshop" > "Quit Photoshop" and "Bridge CS5" > "Quit Bridge CS5"

or

Right click on the application icon in the dock and select "Quit"

If you mean you want to want to stop Bridge from being active in the background so you can apply updates:

Find the Bridge icon in the status area of the taskbar.
Right-click it.
Select "Exit Bridge".

You can also disable Bridge from automatically starting in the background when Windows starts.
