p.1 #1 · NEC SpectraView monitors

Has anyone ever tested these monitors?
http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop%20-monitors/pa231w-bk-sv
Eizo or LaCie would be my first choise if this were a mission critical task, but this would be given to an offsite employee mostly for website and outdoor events.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

unless color fidelity etc etc is an integral part of this employee's job, why get such a 'nice' monitor?

color fidelity is required but we will not be producing wedding albums or cosmetics advertising.

most of the prints will be of outdoor daytime events and most prints will be 8x10 or smaller.

I want a good monitor for a grand, not two or three.

I don't knwo much abotu the 231 23" standard gamut PA but the PA241 wide gamut is pretty amazing

the 14bit 3D LUT is great and it lets it have a perfect sRGB emulation, it's really important for that on teh wide gamut monitor (makes it better than a real sRGB monitor which almost always fall short of sRGB in one way or another). The 14 bit stuff also lets you pick say sRGB TRC or Gamm 2.2 etc. if you pick sRGB TRC then even non-managed stuff like IE will show proper shadow levels for sRGB images. Not all calibration even let you set sRGB TRC, a lot of people just calibrate to gamma 2.2 and then see wrong dark tone levels when using IE. And you get zero banding since the trc is set internally at high bit

231 has the 14 bit 3D LUT too

I do not have the newer PA series but I have MultiSync 2690WUXi2 and MS 3090WUXi2 with SpectraViewII calibration and I love them!
My brother has 2 of the new PA series and the color is phenominal. My older MS series is barely discernable.
Nice choice!
Dan

I use the older NEC 2490WUXI2 and also a LaCie 321. They are very similar in quality, with the NEC being a much better value right now. Both panels are stellar, and the 2490 a bit cheaper than th PA series if you don' t need all the bells and whistles.

After a bunch of research, I decided instead to buy an Asus 24" PA246 monitor (P-IPS, wide-gamut) and an i1 Display Pro. I think it ended up being half the price of the NEC I was considering, so I got two.

Absolutely bloody gorgeous. And for less than $500, a much more attractive option than the NEC.
