Question for those shooting full frame (d700) that have tried both of these.
Can it be said that the 24-70 at 24mm can completely beat the old 24mm 2.8 AF prime?
My question is purely optical and not a question of size etc.
Thanks,

OMG yes! HUGE difference. I've owned both at the same time, shooting with D700.
27-70 is almost perfect... sharp, almost no CA, deep colors... about the only negative things about it are price and weight. The 24/2.8 AFD is sharp and small, and that's about it. My biggest complaint about it is that it FLARES easily. This is one of the few Nikon lenses that I would not recommend. If you need this focal length on a prime, I suggest just jumping ahead to the 35/2, which is a way better glass, IME.
