I've recently began experiencing some focus issues with my Nikon 18-200 VRI. I pair it with my D90, and when I zoom out to telephoto end (100mm+) on far away objects it focusses to a certain point then stops. If I zoom in on objects that are close, it is able to focus.
I haven't treated my lens particularly well, lets just say its been on a few adventures with me... But I'm almost certain that anything I've done to it has only been cosmetic.
Any thoughts? I may have to purchase a new second hand on or 18-105VR.
There's a lock ring just inside the end of the lens body (where the filter threads are). Find a makeshift spanner, and tighten it. Bet you anything it is loose.
Try this
Take it off of the camera and zoom in to 18 and move the focus wheel and look in the window
It should move all the way from one end to the other with no issue
Now try the same at 100+ and see what happens
If it doesn't make it all of the way it will probably have to go in for service
I had some focus issues with my 18-200 VR1, as well. It was still under warranty so I sent it to Nikon and it is great now. Is yours still under warranty?
