I would've rather ordered from adorama, but you know what, it's good enough that I don't give a shit where I ordered it from. It could've come from DRNK or whatever Korea is calling themselves these days ahaha.

I hope that if you ever experience anything less than exceptional customer service from Adorama staff - in store or on the 'phones - that you'd let me have full details as soon as possible: [email protected]

Too bad Adorama adjusted the price a day after I ordered mine from B&H... I could of saved an extra $70 or so with Mr. Rebates, but not a big loss really!
Plus, out of the (3) copies of this lens I have owned (first was returned due to IS defects and softness at 200mm, second I have used for the past year and has been really great all around), the third one I just got is the sharpest one yet. At 200mm it blows me away wide open, while the one I have been using the past year is a really sharp lens, this new one is at a whole new level honestly.
So I am happy I bought this third one due to the sale... I will unload my extra in a few weeks when all the rebates end Was worth buying another to find the sharpest copy I have had yet.

I lost count of the number of POTN members who emailed me directly asking if we'd price match on this item. We always do our best to match to equally reputable retailers - in the end, lowering the price seemed to be the most logical thing to do!

Helen,
Just curious (don't have to answer obviously), but in sales like these, does B&H/Adorama/Amazon take a hit with these sales? I am guessing the Canon instant rebate probably does not affect the vendors bottom line, but the extra $100 lately might? Or has costs direct from Canon reduced lately allowing the price drop? I know you probably are not taking a loss per lens sold. Just curious how the vendors do in these cases and if the profit per unit sold reduces or has been adjusted down the line to allow the same profits.

Well, unfortunately, my 70-200 has to be exchanged. After some careful testing this morning, it focuses fine at 70mm but needs +17 MA at 200mm. If I set the MA at +17 then at 70mm it is very backfocused. At 0 MA, the lens is fine at 70mm but frontfocused at 200mm. I guess I've been lucky with all the lenses I've purchased over the years since this is the first one that needs to go back to the vendor. I usually send all new lenses to Canon sometime within the first year for CLA but this one needs more than a little touch up.

Sorry to hear that. My 24-105 was like that when I bought it new over a year ago... At 24mm it was fine at 0MA but needed +9 at 105mm... I sent to Canon for adjustment and they did a great job with it. Dead on both ends at 0MA and is extremely sharp throughout wide open.
All three of my 70-200's I have used were good on both ends. Sucks you got a dud.

Good luck with your next one!
Thanks. I tried it on both the 5D2 and 7D outside with similar results (and on the lens align inside). It seems so far out that I don't want to risk holding on to it and sending it off to Canon, though they would probably get it working just fine.
