Nice lens. Very small and compact and actually has good IQ, especially if it's stopped down a touch. It would be my go anywhere telezoom if I still shot DX.

I'm getting one for my Sister - this summer I bought her a D40 + 18-55VR and the 55-200VR would be a perfect addition. My other sister has one on her D80 and it's just fine on lower MP bodies and if you are not going to be blowing up the images to huge sizes.

Adorama has it refurbed for $149.99 (or at least did a few weeks back) - with a 90 day Nikon USA warranty.
I think it's a good lens; it's tack sharp at any aperture and focal length on my D7000. The only reason to stop it down is for DoF. I think this is utterly amazing for a lens that's little more than budget zoom. Okay bokeh, color very good, VR quite effective, AF is quite okay. Not much flare to speak of. Makes me think there just aren't any bad lenses anymore... It would be a steal even at MSRP. Nikon could easily touch it up with a steel mount and a DoF scale and charge $699 for it.
Maybe there's a lot of unit variation, but the one I have is excellent.

I have used it on my D300 and its great. I have not tried huge prints, but megapixels have no bearing on its performance. The shots look great on my screen. Buy a refurbished one and save the extra $100 for a 50/1.8. For the price, it is stellar.

Had one. As previously stated, the AF was too slow (even coming from an 18-105 VR), and it also has lens creep (found that out when shooting the moon).
