I guess it's OK as long as I'm not posting in the "People" forum.

Actually, I find nature photography in NE Ohio in November (and through the winter) is often about rocks or dead things.

At any rate, here are three that I liked.

1. Seed pod (spent flower), pitcher plant. This is from a true bog close to Kent, Ohio, where there are a good many pitcher plants, lowbush cranberries and tamarak trees. Taken last weekend.

2. Another spent blossom--not sure of the "weed" it came from, but I liked the swirling form of this one. Taken two years ago, but it seemed to fit the topic.

3. Posted a color version of this milkweed seed pod a while ago, but I liked the way the B&W version turned out.

All B&Ws generated with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 (a new conversion of image #2).

Let me know what you think of my dead stuff.

These are wonderful B&W images. The milkweed is superb. Great texture in them all. Well done.

p.1 #5 · I see dead things. . .

I like the first seed pod - all the details and intricacies make for a compelling image. The second image has some nice and interesting forms and curves. But the third one - the milkweed got my attention. At first I thought the highlights were blown out, but no they are not. With white levels set for 245 it is white but not blown out. And all the detail and supporting elements make me continue looking at it.

Also, masterful use of contrast, bokeh, and steering the viewer to the main part of the image where you want us to look. Nicely balanced images.

Glad you liked the first. It is a 5-shot stack combined in CS5 in order to get the DOF while keeping the background well out of focus.

I loved the color version of the last one but the B&W version holds up very well.

Thanks for the comments, and appreciate you taking the time to take a detailed look. I also liked the B&W version of the milkweed. I'm liking Silver Efex a good bit for the B&W processing.
