p.1 #1 · Oak bush cricket

Found an adult oak bush cricket the other day sitting on a very hairy Echium leaf.

Very nice shots of this pretty bush cricket. Would've guessed it's nymph because of the tiny pair of wings

Thanks Kurt for the comments. AFAIK neither of the 2 species of bush crickets I get in the garden develop full wings.

[EDIT] Whoops- think you are right Kurt- apparently this species does develop full wings - getting a bit late in the season unless it can hibernate as a sub- adult.

Brian,

Superb images.

The ovipositor shows it to be mature. It seems to be a Southern Cousin of the OBC:

Thanks for the comments everyone

Harold - that might explain it- the Southern OBC only has short wings ! - thanks

Phil - This echium is the very tall bi or triannual one - It just self seeds. I did lose my lower growing perennial echiums last winter though but luckily did find some seedlings of that too.
