Then again it might have been a bad copy. Didn't try a second one.

I had seen that thread and when I just looked at it again, I remembered all the comments from other owners of the lens saying that you must have had a bad copy. Sadly, the bad Sigma QC is a reality.

I'd say it's nearly impossible to compare pics someone else shot with unknown processing, subject, light, etc. to something you're imagining a lens you own can do. Not saying it wasn't a bad copy, but I'm also not sure if it indeed was. For the sake of public wisdom I should've tried a second copy or have it ckecked by Sigma. In the end I went the easy way and just sent it back, also because it's a b*tch to focus outside the macro range.

It's a lot more scientific than just claiming that your copy is sharper, without proof. Also, how the hell do you know that, when he haven't told us anything about sharpening and PP? You don't even have the same camera, right?

Well, I left a link. Not scientific either I suppose. However I never made a claim that it was.

By the way, the M42 mount auction on eBay has ended with final price at US $1,925.
The Nikon Ai-s mount is still one day left.

And suddenly another one came up, in C/Y mount.
There are four V125 showed up on eBay in the last 2 weeks.

OMG, there is another one in Canon EOS mount on eBay.
Why are all of a sudden people selling their V-125?

On mflenses.com, there's a thread here that has been trying to guesstimate the production numbers of Voigtlander SL I APO's but particularly the 125. It seems that this particular EOS-mount lens has now been sold FOUR times in the past 2 years according to the compiler of the database,Vilhelm Sjostrom. He postulates that it's either a dud or sellers in Singapore are using it to launder cash around.

The highest prices (by some margin) are gotten for the AIS version, the reason for which was never clear to me since the EOS version is 1] rarer and 2] natively chipped.

Go figure.

All these high prices are ridiculous. If you are patient there is always one that will go for less. Case in point, a very nice C/Y mount went for US $1,163.31 on 7/10.

the nikon is the most future proof since it is fully mechanical and easiest to use on other mounts. perhaps that plays a role?

I rarely shot macro photography, so I wonder if the 1:1 magnification of V-125 is one big of the advantages over Leica which need teleconverter to get 1:1 and will loose 1 f-stop or more? Or it's not a big deal?

I don't think that the Voigt 125 in my possession is "sub-par".

In fact, I own 2 Voigt 125. One brand new boxed and the second mint boxed. You can easily see the lens condition in my earlier post. It is as mint as they come!

I understand some frustration among owners of the Voigt 125 when it is knocked of it's pedestal. But the posted test of the lenses tell the story.

I had a chance to buy one of the on the B&S quite a few years ago for $600. I had the seller email me some samples and I also wasn't overly impressed with the lens sharpness, so I didn't buy it. At that time (and even now) I had about five other macro lenses for comparison. Its an excellent macro lens for sure, but not worth the going prices. Especially in light of some of the newer lenses like the Zeiss 100/2 and Sigma 150 OS (and even the non-OS 150 macro).

you don't need a teleconverter, just a tube. it's super nice not to have to unmount a lens to switch from macro to infinity or vice versa though.
