I gave up Hoya years and years ago (same goes with Tiffen) and have stuck with B+W. A bit more cash, but you get what you pay for.

Thanks Phil, I sent an email to thkphoto.com offices asking for a quote and they say that it usually costs $30 to put it back together, and then I have to add the shipping costs.

In the other hand, I found this contact: http://maxsaver.net/B-W-77mm-Kaesemann-MRC-Circular-Polarizer-Filter.aspx , a B+W CPL Kaesemann for less than $130. They are Honk-Kong based and they seem pretty legit. Has anyone here dealt with them in the past?

That's where I got my last B+W cpol... it appears to be a legit copy but it's crazy cheap compared to US-sourced versions.

I never had a Hoya fall apart but in the polarizers they didn't seem to filter out the uv very well. I switched to Nikon and Canon Polarizers and the polarization effect is dramatically stronger. I was told that it is because of the uv issue.

My Hoya polarizer fell apart on a 3 week photo trip. Never again Hoya.

I have been lucky and have not had that problem yet. Now that B+W makes the Kaesemann thin nano-coated polarizers with the front threads I would not need to buy Hoyas. At the time the Hoyas were the only good thin polarizers with front threads. The B+W thin polarizing filters had that stupid cap that always fell off.

Yes, maxsaver is legit. I bought all of my B+W Kaesemann polarizers from them and have never had any problems. Depending on where you are, if you can tolerate the shipping time the savings are worth the wait.

Sounds like it is better to avoid Hoya CP filters though I do have Hoya MHC UV filters for most of my lenses.

I had a low-end Hoya Circ-Pol explode while removing it from my camera. I now have the B&W Kasemann.....what a great filter!

sigh, my hoya hd cpl fell apart on me on my holiday. I was just taking it off one lens & it just fell apart
