Hi.

I am interested in extension tubes but have some questions. I have a Sony A7 and a metabones III adapter for Canon lenses. I want to use extension tubes with both my Sony FE lenses and my Canon lenses. Would it work to get something like this...

Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Sony E-mount Lenses

..and use them between the camera body and the metabones for the Canon lenses or would i need to get a set of extension tubes for Canon and use that between the metabones and the canon lenses for canon and also have a set of Sony extension tubes to use with the Sony FE native lenses. Thanks in advance for the advice.

To summarize can I use extension tubes anywhere in the chain? Camera Body> Ext tube> Adapeter> lens

or does the extension tube need to be next to the lens in the chain?

Thanks!

This is really hard to do ....

Well I think it is .... the ultimate selfie ...

Using Nikon Camera Control Pro 2, D800 tethered, live view on the commuter screen, trying to focus and shoot is tough.

I kept moving the wrong way ....

And slipping out of focus ....

And before some opthalmic person tells me the blood vessels are the result of drink .... this is without a drop of drink for a week ... and if you have an opinion about the state of my health as a result of looking into my eye ... then please keep it to yourself

This one and its matching twin on the right side of my head are allowed to look tired ... they have seen sixty-three years of use so far !!

Tubes used .... PN-11 plus 2 x PK-13 plus a PK-12 on the 105mm f2.5 ... cable attached to an SB-700 taken at f22, which meant lighting the eye with a cycle lamp at 3500 lumens ... (I know, I'll go blind, before anyone else tells me about the risks)

Anyway .... I had to experiment ...

0021c eye by Steve of phnart, on Flickr

Also posted in Nikon manual focus thread.

I do actually recommend anyone to try this as an exercise. It tries your patience.

I guess it's much easier if someone else takes the picture ... but where's the fun in that ??

Steve

Long time since my last visit here;

superb work from Kevin and Ronny!

A humble contribution,this time the 55/2.8 + PK13, magnified 1.4x by the TC14A:

D7100 + TC14A + PK13 tube + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 ais + SB400 flash on macro bracket + diffuser, hand held, ISO 400, f/16 (not considering the TC it was f/11) at 1/320s, ~15% cropped.

I never would have thought to use a TC with macro. What a great idea!

Thank you Kevin, but I saw this firt time in the excellent book on Close up from John Shaw:

http://www.amazon.com/John-Shaws-Closeups-Nature-Shaw/dp/0817440526

At the MFD set for this lens + PK13 we have 1:1, the TC makes a reproduction of 1.4:1, and the DX sensor (1.5) a 2.1:1 magnification.

One sample more:

D7100 + TC14A + PK13 tube + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 ais + SB400 flash on macro bracket + diffuser, hand held, ISO 400, f/16 at 1/320s, ~10% cropped.

Thanks Tony.

Another sample with the same combo.
An unperceived and curious reflection at the moment of the shot:

"Flowers in my eyes"

"Flowers in my eyes" by labecoaves, on Flickr

D7100 + TC14A + PK13 tube + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 ais + macro bracket + SB-400 flash + improvised diffuser, hand held, ISO 400, f/11 at 1/160s. Top: 33% cropped, bottom 100% cropped to show the flowers reflected in the eyes.
The TC14A is magnifying 1.4x the 55/2.8 + PK-13 combo.

Nice shot. Good light on the gills of the upper cap. A bit too bright overall, the highlights suffering.

I intended to look at all the pages to the end before adding my comment but I was blown away by the quality of this shot. Awesome detail, composition and a nice catch of the moment. Of course the fact that it's taken with a Canon also helps me being a canon guy and all. =)
