Steve, Kevin, Ram & David, very nice pictures.

Not a macro, but anyway I shoot with a 20mm tube + 400mm/5.6 K wide open.
Great Kiskadee portrait at 4.5m of distance:

Great Kiskadee portrait with Nikkor 400mm f/5.6 K ED + 20mm extension tube por labecoaves, no Flickr

D600 + Vivitar 20mm extension tube + Nikkor 400mm f/5.6 K ED non-IF ai'd hand held, supported on the windowsill. ISO 320, f/5.6 at 1/125s. ~40% cropped. As the MFD of this old lens is 5m, I needed a tube to get focus at ~4.5m of the bird.

Heres several images with a Canon FDn IF 200 F2.8 lens + 25U ext. tube on a Sony NEX-7 . The third photo is a Steinhiel 135 F4.0 lens + Kenko 10mm M4/3s ext. tube on an Olympus OM-D.

I posted this yesterday on FM . Want to get close with longer focal length lenses ? , and also have more control over the image size and distance , then consider removing the glass elements from a Vivitar 2X macro focusing tele-converter. Their pretty cheap and KEH camera usuall has some in stock. House hold small tools will usually to the trick. If a last stubborn or non acessable element shows up- carefully break it out. EYE PROTUCTION A MUST , if you have to do this. The tube is like a metal minature bellows with 45MM to 60MM variable focusing.

Harry and David, superb flowers.

Last shots of my ex "almost pet" praying mantis; it has gone from my balcony's micro garden.

The exif is wrong, forgot to change lens CPU data, vivitar tube has no electric contacts.

I see Jose is showing us all how to do it... He is the man...

It is flower season in California so I guess I need to dust off the tubes and get to work. Here is one I grabbed about ten minutes ago. I'm shooting with a 135 f/2.8 Q.C AI manual focus lens mounted on a D700 with two Vivitar extension tubes attached, one at 12mm the other at 20mm. For the life of me I can't find the 36mm tube...

And a second one stopped down to f/4. Wide open with tubes is rather silly...

Thanks Kevin... I love getting close and tubes allow us to do so... I know you enjoy using them as well. Nice to have a place to share this kind of work.

Yes it is. I wish I had more tubes, all I have is an M2, and it is very temperamental compared to a PK13, even at the same length. Kind of wish I still had that Vivitar set, would love to use the 12mm with my 55/1.2.

An old experiment with real a life subject:

180/5.6 + tube (at least one crazy) combinations with my ex D3:

Nikkor 180mm f/5.6 ED ais close up comparisons por labecoaves, no Flickr

Comparison of magnifications when using the Nikkor 180/5.6 ED ais at MFD + some tubes. All shots with D3 at ISO 200 + tripod + remote shutter.

Top: no tube, f/2.8 at 1/60s; magnification 0.133x; distance subject to sensor - 1,75m.
2nd: 12mm Vivitar, f/2,8 at 1/80s; magnification ~0.2x; distance 1,3m.
3rd: PN-11 (52.5mm), f/5.6 at 1/10s; magnification ~0.42x; distance 86cm.
Bottom: 120.5mm (all Vivitar set 12+20+36mm + PN11); f/11 at 1/2s magnification ~0.8x; distance 73cm.

Great to have you stop by Harry and nice to know you're still picking up your camera gear from time to time. You're definitely a creative soul, playing with Tamron converters as you describe. There are so many ways to use all this gear and it is always nice to get closer to our subject. I just put my set of Vivitar tubes in the glovebox of my car, so hopefully I can make a few contributions to this thread...

Be well Harry.

As I have shot these pix with toobs - they should be here .....

Although I only used one tube with the Nikon 105mm f2.5 and a PN-11 giving 1:1 apparently !!

Hope these are OK.

They're awesome Steve. And don't forget you can mount that tube on any of the lenses and even if you don't get 1:1 you'll get closer to the subject AND get great results as you do above. Have fun!
