Lovely shot David. With the 105 and 135 soon arriving, either coupled with the 27.5mm PK-13, you'll have a great time. I love those focal lengths for tubes. I don't remember which tube I used but I shot this with the 135 f/2.8 AI. Mounting that smaller lens with tubes really made it sing.

Glad you're enjoying it. Remember, an extension tube allows ANY lens to get closer to its subject. You'll be amazed at how tubes change your experience with photography. You might want to make the investment. It can be quite small. In the meantime, enjoy the photos posted by folks shooting with every system. The only constant is the presence of one or more extension tubes...

Thanks Curtis. Did the post office give you any idea when I can expect delivery of the package..... (not that I'm anxious or anything)? I'm liking the 105 with the extension tube more than more shorter lenses... here's one with the 50mm f1.4 ais...

Cheers and good light,
David

Macro has always been a frustrating challenge to me and the light is hard for me to get right as I move in close. I have a great macro lens, Canon 100mm F/2.8 L ii, that I purchased for portrait work and it's one of the brightest lens in my collection. But now I'm inspired to shoot this tulip blooming beside my driveway because of this thread. Thank you, Dee

Hey Curtis .....

Thanks for reminding me of this thread ....

I was out today with the Nikon 85mm f1.4 manual focus lens mounted onto a PN-11 and hand-held these wild flower shots.

It was bright and sunny .... which helped !!

Steve

Lovely Steve... Frankly, the folks hanging out on Manual Focus Nikon Glass could easily keep this thread active as well... so many fine photographers using gear that really lends itself to this kind of shooting. Fine work here...

Hi Folks., this will be a double post for here and on the MF thread. After seeing what Ronny and rest did using extension tubes, I scored a Vivitar 3 set extension tube from eBay for $30 shipped and received them today.

Below example shot using the 105mm f2.5 AI with the 36mm tube.

I was looking at getting a dedicated macro lens (Nikon 60 or old school Nikon 105 f4) but these photos make me think to try out extension tubes as an alternative. I would imagine the learning curve would be similar, and if a lesser quality set of tubes ends up with the old saying, "you get what you pay for". That said, for a new person like me, what things should I look for in tubes? *CPU connection I think would be important for metering).

What camera are you using? Assuming Nikon, if your body has a non-CPU data section, no need for contacts, just an aperture ring. So even the cheap tubes would work. The Nikon ones are exceptionally well built, no flex like the cheap ones if you stack them.

I am using a Nikon D300s, still in the deciding phase of tubes vs. lens.

Getting over my aversion to bees. The 105 f/2.5 with the 32mm of tubes lets me get about arm distance away from the subject, so it was good. I found myself getting too close to focus with the tubes, even though I hate bees!

I am allergic to bees, yet I get right up on them. Foolish I know, but I am not really afraid of them anymore and they seem to know I mean them no harm. I have even had a few hitch a ride on my camera as I go from plant to plant.

Nikon D7000, PK13, Nikkor 80-200/4.5 AI (EXIF is wrong, forgot to change it in camera) Working distance of about 5"
