Due to lean economic times we've had to move from our house to an apartment. This morning I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself and I won't even tell you what I had to go through just to make coffee since half of the coffee maker is lost, when suddenly I heard a racket outside like rusty door hinges and a scream. Being nosy I opened up the drapes only to see a gaggle of wild turkeys squawking like they do running after a girl who had screamed and was talking on her cell phone. The faster she went down the sidewalk, the faster the turkeys ran, I guess they were looking for something to eat! It was the funniest sight I've seen in a while and I thought about getting my camera, but remembered it was buried behind a mound of boxes and it will take days to get to it. I didn't even think about my Iphone, darn it. Anyway, the whole thing brightened my mood and I remember we're not too far away from a regional preserve where the turkeys probably came from and that I'll have time someday to go exploring, as soon as I dig out of these boxes! Sorry there's no photo, but maybe someone else has a turkey story or photo.
OK, get your BIG OLE SMILE back on! I think many of us are sharing the difficult economic times, you and I have spoke of them. Now, get your camera out first, the rest of the crap can wait, see, you already missed a photo
Take care and go explore your new area, if you need a new coffee maker PM me, I will get you one
Yessir!
In these Crazy times when the going gets tough..its time to head out to the bird Estuary and shoot some birds for dinner....
Nothing goes better with dinner than a nice beer and a sharp BIF shot or DOMP....(Duck on My Plate..) haha
Thanks Karl, I'm having coffee withdrawl symptoms. I'm hoping we'll be back in our house in 18 months, but in the meantime I'm going to enjoy a new experience as much as possible. There are lots of birds here in this apartment area, I can hear them in the trees and I brought all my feeders so soon I'll be posting hummers and finches again.
Nice!
A semi dry Chardonnay with light hints of Citrus goes well with Duck in Orange sauce.....haha
Though this may not be the forum to be posting it on....
Great story Jeanette, I am grinning thinking of the girl running on the phone with a gaggle of turkeys chasing her
Forget the turkey, lets have some medium rare duck breast and a nice OR pinot, Argyle Spirithouse will do nicely. Not to disrespect CA wineries mind you
This topic is making me hungry........
Anyone ever shot a KFC chicken? I wonder what they look like when they are not on in a box with Fries and creamy coleslaw.....
I was dumping a memory card the other day and I had my 1d II next to me with the 70-200 on it... I look up out the window and 2 infant porky pines walk 6 feet from the window.... I jumped so fast and didnt even think I just put the camera to my face and let it rip... they walked out of site and I looked down. and read no card available....
Trust me keep your eyes open because those turkeys probably have chased off more then one human... you probably will get that shot yet

I've not been around since last week - working on getting my new computer set up the way I want it is taking longer than I thought. This is the first day I have been to fm in a while. No time to post, but I had to take the time to post this link to make your coffee problems go away. This is no joke -it makes the best cup of coffee I have had...
Ron
I've been wanting to buy a samurai sword for that exact scenario, damn turkeys think they can go attacking people. I'll lop off their noggins and eat them for dinner. I was wondering how the others would react to one of their buddies having their head lopped off, would they run or keep attacking? If they kept attacking, it just might be a massacre...
Corndog, I think a samurai sword is overkill and there's all that Samurai protocol about honor and stuff and lopping a turkey's neck, well ... I've heard of chickens with their heads cut off, but not turkeys.
Surfnron, thanks for the link to the coffee press, I'd like to try that and I think I will order it.
Thomas, that is a nice turkey capture, and in the wild too, not running down a city street! Thanks for posting.
Macro, I have had that same thing happen to me so many times! Too bad the SLR's didn't have an internal memory for just such occasions.
Martin, thanks for your good wishes.
Tim, I am partial to a good Oregon Pinot too, plenty of berry notes, perfect with fowl!
Ted, you have expensive wine taste, but you are on the way to the bank, I know!
