p.1 #1 · QE2 Sails away

Hi,

Hope this is of interest to some. It was her last visit. Shot of her sailing down the Firth of Forth. Late on Tuesday.

ISO 6400 F2.8

Regards,

Ian

Ian,

A really beautiful atmospheric image, I particularly like the break in the clouds and the flotilla of tugs all in a row like ducks!

I was fortunate enough to have sailed on this ship once as a boy in the 1970s, I'll be sad to see her go.

Hi Scotian

How noisy is the original image at that ISO and what camera/lens did you use?

Very nice. Great atmosphere. Feels like I want to be on that warm and cosy ship.

Fine shot. If I can find it, I'll post pics of the QE2 in New York for the first time.

That is a beautiful ship....impressive.

This image shows her looking great even in the low light.

Thanks for posting the image.

The EXIF shows a Nikon D3 camera, with some lens at 70mm, f/2.8, and ISO 6400. We'll have to wait for the OP's comments on lens, but I'd guess at the 70-200/2.8VR since he'd want the ability to zoom in and get some "closeup" shots. At least, that's how I'd be thinking. It could also be the 24-70/2.8, though, or one of the older lenses in the lineup (28-70, 35-70, etc.)

I like the picture, but I have to say - it looks slightly oversharpened, and this brings out the noise in the image. It has the telltale pixelated lights from an image that may have been slightly over-sharpened.

But to echo everyone else, a very fine capture.
