p.1 #1 · Negative Scanner?

I am looking for a good way to scan in "old" 35 mm negatives. I have researched a little and came up with Canon 4400 Canoscan or an 8800 Canoscan. I have never scanned a negative before. Does it come up on the computer as a regular looking jpeg? Please help.

Look into Minolta scanners. They are VERY well regarded, and a very good buy for the money. Look for a used one on E-bay, use it, then sell it once you are finished.

The Nikons will generally do a good job as well. On mine it comes up as a tiff file, either 8 or 16 bit (not every scanner does 16).

Depends on whether we are talking B&W or color, and if so, which emulsion......

Specifications not withstanding, film scanners are normally better that flatbeds.
