p.1 #1 · To Action or Not to Action...

...that is the question:

The photo on the left is SOOC with minor adjustments. NO adjustments to his eyes, believe it or not! The second is Nicole Van's Indoor Color pop, slightly, well, more than slighty backed down so he doesn't appear like an oompaloompa's (think Willy Wonka). Watcha think? I like actions, when their subtle. The action I applied on the right is NOT subtle. I sharpened his eyes, brought out the red in his lips, skin creamed his face, and that's about it.

Wow, I can hardly tell a difference. I think you did a really great job applying that action. I don't use actions yet, but I think a lot of people go overboard with them. You did quite well.

I think the right one is slightly better in the tones. But they do look a bit cold to be. Not much but just a bit.

I think you could improve it further - I agree with _WHAT_ about the cool tones.

Really really simple way

Open up a levels adjustment layer

Click the gray eye dropper on the whites of his eyes (which if you look - are actually quite blue in this image). The picture will go too warm for you. Lower the opacity of the layer to suit - and voila!
You can of course also use a brush on the mask to restrict the effects anywhere you choose.

If you don't follow any of this - PM me

In LR you can simply mess with the WB. I go through all the presets to see which one looks most natural, then I adjust manually from there.

You might want to consider getting monitor calibration. That will help keep you from chasing your tail. I'm looking at the photos on a calibrated monitor and they look a little cool. I do prefer the one with the action. Good job,you didn't overdo it.

I have monitor calibration... I know what you mean... When you're looking at photos for hours and hours your eyes play tricks on you.

Is there a method to determine that THIS is too cool, or THAT is too warm?

That's better. Now, you need to clean up the background as it's way too distracting.

I have a gazzillion images like this that are pure family moments. Not a pro session, just had the camera on the mantle and decided to shoot. Great moment
