I'm just getting in to bird photography and would appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have about some of my first shots. These are all from along the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, shot with a D70 + Tokina 400 f/5.6.
These aren't the most exotic birds, but at this point I'm happy to just have some shots that aren't blurry or obstructed. Thanks in advance for any comments or criticism.
Great shots and welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a great lens and a camera. Go out and keep taking pictures. Most of the photographers here spend lots of time in the field to get the great pictures they post.

Welcome, these are nice shots! I really like 2. Nothing wrong with photographing the common. If you can make the common great you can grab the non-comnon with expertise.
Some may think of a GBH as common..... But I think they're special. As for the Robin..... I've not ever seen one so to me it seems exotic. All in the mind of the beholder.....
Main thing.... Go out and shoot & a lot. Study your subjects & as much as permitted..... by the subject that is.... Allow them time to "do" things. Watch how the light changes in how they hold their heads etc. How their colors change in how they're placed in the light. Allow yourself to develop your own style etc.
These are very nice, GBH shots are nice and sharp. I like how the canadian goose tried to steal the show on GBH in flight shot. The robin shot is a very good shot, nice exosure and very pleasing BG.
You will have opportunities to only take more of a documentative photo of an animal and then there will be times for you to 'make' more of the shot by moving around to compose and select BG's. Have fun doing both, take plenty of shots like Lil sugggests, you will learn something from each one of them.
