I'm looking for some advice. I am going to buy a lens in the 20-40mm range. The goal is to use it for panoramas (panosaurus) and some portraits, though the portrait stuff is nothing really serious. I have a 17-40, but I want something with a larger aperture than 4.0. For the foreseeable future, I will be "limited" to 1.6x crop cameras.
So far it seems my options are 28/2.8, 35/2, 24/2.8. My budget does not go up to the 20/2.8. Also the wider ones would seem to be less optimal with regards to portraits and DOF control.
Thanks

I have the 35mm f/2 and I like it quite a bit. I like the focal length on a 1.6 crop and my copy is nice and sharp and is quite useable wide open. I think it would be a good choice for your stated purposes.
