p.1 #1 · Lillies with 30D & Carl Zeiss 1.4/50 Planar T*

I love this lens. I just started using and I think it does a pretty good job, especially at f/1.4. What do you think? Taken with my 30D this afternoon against my seamless paper. I think the AF was right on but I am not sure. I focused on the pistel/stamen (whatever it is called) in the flower.

Pretty calla lilly. I might not be a fan of the white background. I might be inclined to have less in the frame to the right of the flower. Cropping out the three smaller vertical flowers adds more to your subject.
The center of focus looks a little soft but it seems to blend with the feel of the image. These images are always up to the photographer, what you want us to see. Just playing around you could even crop from left over to eliminate the lower left flower again emphasizing the main lilly.

Don't read me wrong, I like the image, I like flowers but I think you could strengthen it if you wanted or just leave it if you are happy with it. Thanks for the chance to review it. IMO f/1.4 isn't going to leave you much room on a 3 dimensional object for a sharp focus point, got nice color!

Karl

Re-think on crop thought, played a bit with it and looks very nice croppin up from bottom and over from left to eliminate lower left flower. Flowers to right look nice included............

Thanks for the comments Karl, it's appreciated. I was just messing around seeing what the lens could do at 1.4, and like you said at that aperture there is not much room for a sharp focus point. I definitely could mess around with the cropping some more. The one thing I am really lovin' about this lens is the creamy colors. I did not do any PP on the image, just straight out of the camera.

Looks like you have a winner to work with then, wasn't quite sure how much C&C you were looking for. Colors do look very nice! Ought to be a real beauty once you dial it in for your likings. Take care.........

I will take all the C&C that you and others have to offer. That's why I am here. Cheers!
