p.1 #1 · Upgrade from the Epson R1800?

Looking to upgrade my printer set-up was wondering Where I should go from the 1800. Looking at the 3800 was wondering if anyone has made that upgrade, and how they like the 3800 vs 1800. Can I expect to get a better print quality from the 3800? etc. I am doing all color on matte paper.

p.1 #2 · Upgrade from the Epson R1800?

Yes, I made that upgrade three weeks ago and also print mostly colour on matte/fine art paper.

It's difficult to quantify the improvement in image quality exactly, but I would say it's about 10% better. Black and white prints are much better. Ink costs are about 50% better. And the 17x22" prints framed and on the wall are just stunning.

If you are comtemplating the upgrade on image quality alone, you may be disappointed. But if you want to make bigger prints and save on ink costs, then you will be more than pleased. I also find that the problem I was having with scratching and flaking on large colour prints on matte paper with the R1800 have vanished. Something to do with the different ink set perhaps.

I'm very pleased with this upgrade.
