I'm back with some test shots with the D200 and 18-200 VR...it was shot with my studio lights to see how good this lens will perform. It's not bad for the money! It's not as sharp as my better glass, but for half the price, it's the best walk around lens I've every use yet. It's a picture of my 6 year old son. I'll post a couple more of my daughter after dinner.
beautiful color Joe, I would prefer his body and shoulders turned more 3/4 to the camera. the lens looks good as far as color and contrast, but flash always makes things look better too
Thanks guys...I agree with you John, I would like to see him turned more as well. I was just lucky he sat still for thirty seconds for me to take his picture He loves taken pictures with the D200 more then getting his picture taken with it Here's another picture from the 18-200. This time it's of my daughter. I'm going to try to post two pics of her. The close up of her is shot with the 70-200 for comparison.
Hey Joe, great shots. Did you shoot the D200 & 18-200 in Raw or Jpg? And did you do anything to the files before saving as jpg to post here?
So far I've been very impressed with both my D200 and 18-200.
I hear there's supposed to be some fog here this morning and may venture out to a couple of my favorite spots on my way to fly fish to see what I might see.
Thanks. I always shoot in Raw to help correct my mistakes ...The only thing I did was lowered the contrast to "low contrast' in Capture. Then I resized it in PS. I hope you get some good shots tomorrow...look forward to seeing some!

This one is adorable, Joe. What a cutie! Very, very nice photo, sharp, good lighting and color.
I'm nit picking here- Did you change any parameters between the shot of your son vs. the shots of your daughter. Your daughter looks a little more contrasty, but I like the skin tones more. Your son looks little cyan/green. Is my vision getting worse again?
Sorry Noob, I never used the 18-70 to compare. I use to own the 24-120VR which I liked as a good walk around lens, but once I used this 18-200VR, it now became my new walk around companion. Don't get me wrong, It's not the 28-70 f2.8, but it's great for the price!
Dan,
As for the contrast/color difference...It could be that I adjusted the white balance in the camera from shot to shot..it was me testing/learning how to use this camera to get the best out of it.
Great shots. The big question is how does it perform with the D2x? If it is as nice as what you've done with the D200. it could be the uber "walk around". If you could post a comparison shot with that combo, it would of great interest to us fence sitters on the 18-200.
I would LOVE to see a 100% crop taken with this lens. If you could spare the time to do so I would appreciate it. I might trade my Sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens for this guy but need it to be sharp.
The one thing that strikes me most about the portraits I've see taken with the D200 is it's great colour. Maybe it's just my imagination but they seem to be slightly warmer than what I get from my D70. I hope so because I do like the look.
