I installed the new firmware and it has fixed my infinity focus problem with the 17-55 (it used to focus at 7-10 ft in the 17-24 zoom range when it should have been focussed at infinity). Great update to the firmware!!!
I've updated my D2X, but haven't tested it yet. Many people on the Rob Galbraith are saying the focus is "MUCH" better. Not only faster, but just plain sharper. I have to admit, I never really saw a problem with mine, but I can't wait to test this out.
With the 200-400 vr the d2x would slightly frontfocus before the firmware
update...after the update it is dead on and seems to lock on much faster..
I have also noticed much better wb and more natural looking color..
it almost seems like a new improved camera...
this is testing with a stationary subject before the upgrade and after the upgrade..
I'm ecstatic with this improvement.

I upgraded my firmware but haven't field tested it yet. I just about threw up though when after upgrading, powering off, reformatting and powering back up I attached the 70-200 VR and all I got was HUNTING!! It would not lock on for love nor money. Changed lenses - same drill with the 135 f/2. Toggled all the switches on the body and it started working as expected again. I'm still sweating BBs.... I'll see if everything is better in the morning and report back.
I posted on another thread but I just edited my first images from the firmware upgrade and oh my gosh everything is crisper, crisper light, focus and colours.
No more suspect spots where you thought the depth should have carried and no soft spots in the 2x.
Seriously it looks like a new camera.
I have struggled with many aspects of this camera but even with it's downfalls it was better than anything else out there and was worth putting up with the cons.
Today I could not be happier!
Cheers,
Jasin.

Jasin,
I would love to see a before and after.
Also, how did everyone hear about this? I never received an e-mail from Nikon?

With regard to an e-mail, I was thinking along the lines of the newsletters I get from various manufacturers, as opposed to a personal contact from Nikon. No bother, I go to at least three photography boards on a regular basis and hear about these things quick enough.
Finally I'm feeling confident about this focus on the D2X. After upgrading the firmware it seems much more crisp both in the image as well as locking in on focus. Very happy with color also. Way to go Nikon.
