p.1 #1 · Need opinion on my tripod + ball head selection
Want to get a good quality/light tripod for traveling using Canon 20D and 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS (will get a full frame camera in future). After reading many websites and forums, thinking of getting the following combination:
1: Benro C-158M8 tripod + Markins Q3 ball head, or
2: Gitzo GT 1541 + Markins Q3
I am leaning to getting the Benro combination because Gitzo is more expensive. Any comment for getting the Benro?
Thanks!

I'm going to dismiss the Benro immediately for being what it is - a cheap, low-quality, knock-off, not fit for man or beast. If that's really what you want, buy the Dynatran brand, as it's the same product with a cheaper label, or the Induro, the same product with a more expensive label.
Having said that, the 1-series Gitzo is a marginal choice for a lens as long and heavy as the 70-200/2.8 IS. A 2-series would really be the minimum weight class you'd want to look at.
If that's getting too pricey, check out the Feisol tripods, which are of both very good quality and very good value. Top-notch customer service, too.
The Markins Q3 is a great choice, as would be something like the PhotoClam PC-40. The sage advisors here will tell you to buy the right tripod the first time, as it will work out to be less expensive in the end. And, there also isn't one tripod to fit all gear and conditions. Many of us end up with two setups, one lighter, and obviously one heavier for the longer glass.
PS. Is this too large for your travel requirements:
