Moving this from the Post Processing forum because I'm beginning to think this is hardware or XP related ... I've also started getting intermittent Microsoft errors when Mozilla wants to open another window ("firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." then asks me if I want to report to MS or not).
Recently I started getting this error when running Scripts. Here's what happens:
- Open PS. The first time I run a particular script, it runs except the dialog box pops up BEHIND my other pallettes (Layers, History, etc.), not on top.
- The second time I run it, I get the error message you see here. FYI - in this case Simple Viewer is the name of the script I am running. This problem is not unique to Simple Viewer, though.
PS does not freeze, but I cannot run anymore scripts until I close PS and start again. When PS comes back up, the sequence above happens again if I try to run a script.
Last week when this happened, I shut my system down and rebooted. Upon reboot and executing PS, everything started working OK. This time rebooting does not help.
Anyone seen this before or know what the problem is?
I believe error 1400 means "Invalid window handle". My guess is there's something wrong with your system software (i.e. windows). How about you reinstall windows from scratch?
P.S.: An antivirus check might help. A virus could be interfering with new window opening.
A few things I've learned the last couple of days.
System is clean re. viruses, temp files, etc. No extraneous processes that should not be running.
I'm certain this is not a script issue. It happens with multiple scripts, and it happens erratically. Yesterday I worked for hours without an error at all.
Talked to Adobe and they helped reset preferences. They think it must be hardware or XP since it does not happen everytime in PS.
Reinstalling XP frightens me. I had to do this once after a hard drive crash, and it required Dell's help configuring drivers, getting updates, etc. I no longer have a service contract with them, so I would be on my own.
you can probably just to a repair install with XP, assuming you have an original disk and not a "recovery" disk. That way the system files will all get replaced but you wont have to reinstall/reconfigure everything.. going by the success rate from my old company, i'd say it works about 80%+ of the the time.

Thanks for the feedback. Will the CD give me an option to specifically to a repair install vs. full install?

have you tried doing a System Restore to a different date?
No I haven't tried this. For one reason, I'm not quite sure how far back to go. I remember encountering this a few weeks ago for the first time, but thought it was a fluke and moved on.
