Guys

I have two photos. I want to cut an element from each and place one over the other. I have cut out the two elements and can move them around the screen but I am going wrong somewhere - certainly with layers and also maybe the format I am using. I am trying to keep things in psd and not jpeg even though I am not sure if this is correct.

I have the Philip Andrews' bible on the subject but still getting lost.

Any simple one by one instructions would be much appreciated.
