I want to set the filenumber to the same number as the numbers shot with the camera. Is this possible? I can't find this in the manual. Can anybody help me with this?
Thanks.

wow, how did the filenumber get to be 2457?
I set my camera to start at 0 after every format of the cf card, but that has problems too.
Also, I renumber my files using ViewNX, but other programs such as CS3 can batch a renumbering.
How about renaming the file? You can rename it just about anything you want, including 1445.jpg or 1445.nef, or 1445.tif
Do you have just one file to renumber?
Are you trying to set the counter number on the camera to 2457?

I used a CF card from my D3 with files on it.The filenumber system takes the highest.
How do you set the camera at 0?
If it's at zero I can try to fool it to 1445
I don't want to change the counter number, just the other way around.
you tell the D300 to start renumbering from 0 every time the card changes. put in an empty card. take one picture. then you put in a card with the file with the number that you last used, set the camera to remember the last number used, and take one picture. this is another reason not to share cards across cameras without formatting first.
section d4:file number sequence
also page 321 of D3 user guide
also, it sounds like the cf card needs to be formatted before use in the d300, no?
I will bail out now, because someone with a d3 and a d300 should not be having these problems. I would suggest a bowl of cereal and cartoons in the afternoon, then cocktail hour at 5. I usually do my humor in the evenings with the Colbert Report and Daily Show With Jon Stewart, then Futurama.
Thanks Herb, that's what I'm looking for!
But, it sounds a little bit silly, I can find it in the menu's/manual.
I know this should be possible (at least on my Canon's )
